Pre-existing symptoms and conditions

This is any symptom or condition that was present before you took out the policy, and before the end of any relevant exclusion period. No insurer will cover pre-existing symptoms and conditions, but we will take a closer look and possibly include them back in your policy under certain circumstances. Talk to us about this.

Choose your Annual Limit carefully as it cannot be increased after your policy has started. You can decrease your Annual Limit at any time though.

Choose between: 70%, 80% or 90%

The percentage back % is the amount you will receive back after a claim

Below are examples for each option.

Example 1: Percentage back 70%
Claims cost = $1,000
We pay = $700
You pay = $300

Example 2: Percentage back 80%
Claims cost = $1,000
We pay = $800
You pay = $200

Example 3: Percentage back 90%
Claims cost = $1,000
We pay = $900
You pay = $100

An excess is the amount you pay first after you claim. We only ask for an excess once per year. Most other insurers require you to pay excess per claim or per condition.

Example: $150 annual excess (percentage back of 80%)

For your first claim:

  • Claimed vet costs: $1,000
  • (Less) Annual excess: $150
  • We pay: $680 (80% of $1,000 – $150)
  • You pay: $320

For all other claims during the same period of insurance:

  • Claimed vet costs: $1,000
  • (Less) Annual excess: $0
  • We pay: $800 (80% of $1,000)
  • You pay: $200

Like Extras … for your pet!

360º Care covers you for additional conditions including dental (like gingivitis), behavioural problems (like anxiety) and physiotherapy (commonly used post operations). You can add 360º Care to your policy and claim up to your annual limit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pet insurance provides coverage for unexpected veterinary expenses that your pet may require in times of illness or injury. In other words, it is used to cover surprise veterinary bills that are challenging to budget, as opposed to routine expected healthcare maintenance costs, such as vaccinations and parasite preventatives. It is a reimbursement program which means you initially cover the cost of the veterinary expense and submit a claim to be reimbursed.

Unexpected bills can be tricky to budget for, and no pets are excluded from the possibility of illnesses or injuries. Having peace of mind that you can go ahead with the medical or surgical treatment your pet requires when sick or injured can let you focus on providing what they need rather than worrying about the cost and how you will afford it. However it is important to remember that not all conditions are covered, such as Pre-existing Symptoms and Conditions (including those that arise with a relevant Exclusion Period).

Dogs and cats.

Our policy has been designed for pets, so it does not provide cover for cats or dogs that participate in commercial or sporting activity, such as working (including work on a farm), fighting, racing, personal protection, gun sports, law enforcement or guarding.

Our policy may cover dogs and cats who are training for, participate in, or are, show dogs/cats, search and rescue dogs, guide dogs or assistance dogs

Yes, you can use any licensed and currently registered vet in Australia.

Yes, you can insure multiple pets.

When purchasing a new Policy:

  • the minimum age for entry for a Pet is 6 weeks old; and
  • the maximum age for entry is 8 years and 364 days old.

Once you have insurance there is no age limit, as long as continuous cover is held.

Cover commences at 23:59 on the day you purchase cover. There are Exclusion Periods for both accidental injury (1 day) and Illness (14 days) and specified conditions (6 months).

Pet Circle Insurance does not provide cover for the cost of preventative and routine items such as health examinations and tests, vaccinations, grooming, food, parasite prevention and supplements. It also does not provide coverage for any Pre-existing Symptoms and Conditions, including conditions that have arisen within a relevant Exclusion Period. Furthermore, any elective procedure such as desexing or additional vet costs such as after-hours fees or house-call costs when a vet does not consider it an emergency are not covered.

Pre-existing Symptoms and Conditions are is defined as: An Injury, Illness, Dental Illness, Behavioural Problem or Specified Condition (including Bilateral Conditions, and other conditions that are related to, secondary to, or results of) that:

  1. First occurred or showed symptoms of, or
  2. Was identified or investigated by a Vet, or
  3. You were aware of or a reasonable person in the circumstances could be expected to have known about, before Your Pet’s First Date of Cover, before any applicable Exclusion Period has finished, or if You increase Your cover before a change of cover became effective.

If you purchase a policy with 360º Care extras, it will include coverage for dental illness such as dental disease, gingivitis and periodontal disease as long as it is not Pre-existing Condition (including those arising within a relevant Exclusion Period). However, it does not include cover for routine or elective dental work. Please see the PDS for more details and other exclusions.
